Wassup yall, it’s Solus again!

(Or Abby Saja if you know Kpop Demon Hunters lol)

And today, I’m fulfilling a request for someone who would like to complain about the horrible Wastern Civ curriculum at their school.

…oh wait.

This is a letter I wrote to myself. Haha oops.

WELL ANYWAY

At my school we’re required to take one year of Western Civilization—or the beginning of “””””real civilization””””” in Europe.

At least, that’s what I’ve surmised from the two months I’ve been taking this class.

(Which isn’t a lot of information, if you couldn’t tell. But I’ll get to that.)

I’m sure one could find something great about this class if they tried! Tried…really hard…

(I don’t like this class.)

If any of you couldn’t tell from previous blogs, I’m not a big fan of any history.

And by not a big fan, I mean that I couldn’t care less about it.

The only reason I’m not failing this class is because we did Greek history first—a topic drummed into my head during seminars for National Latin convention. (Go read my blog on it.)

During those history seminars, I was definitely paying attention. Yeah. Not doodling Fire Emblem in the margins of my paper. No no.

But anyway. I knew most of the material beginning of the year.

So what do I have to complain about?

  1. Textbook readings/notes.

Oh my GOODNESS. The textbook we have to take notes from is HUGE with TEENY TINY lettering. And we get about four FULL PAGES per reading assignment.

Which we have to take notes on. Anything important, at least.

Unfortuntely, that makes the majority of a textbook. So lots of notes.

I can get my DUMB BRAIN to concentrate FULLY on my West Civ notes and it will still take 30 minutes for HALF A PAGE OF TEXTBOOK. AND WITH A HUGE TEXTBOOK, THAT’S GONNA TAKE A BIT.

So you’d think there’d be a reason to take notes.

BUT THERE IS BASICALLY NONE.

Because the teacher GOES OVER THEM ANYWAY IN CLASS.

I WASTED FOUR HOURS OF MY LIFE.

But at least the note review helps, right?

  1. The note slideshows.

No.

The slideshows are repetitive, formatted by ChatGPT (along with the class tests), and stuff is spelled wrong…so even if the slides are handmade, i’m disappointed.

Sometimes things contradict. Like a statue being unknown (Zeus or Poseidon?) to having a clear identity…when it doesn’t.

My teacher reads directly from the slideshow, adds things that we already come to on our own, and is generally unhelpful (“uh yeah ok yeah watch YouTube”).

The note slideshows are the notes but abreviated, and taking notes from them gives you perfect notes, which is unfair to the people WHO SPENT TIME TAKING THE NOTES.

  1. The class is boring.

It just is. Bro sounds like a ceiling fan. Droning and droning.

So there are the problems with my Western Civ class! Dear Dionysus Omestes please don’t let my Westerm Civ teacher find this I’d be so dead.

I hope none of you have this torturous of a class ever.

Well that’s it. Buhbye and good luck with life :]

Farewell for now,

Solus
