A few days ago, Tesla founder Elon Musk reveled Asperger’s syndrome in the comedy Saturday Night Live by saying quote, “I’m actually making history tonight as the first person with Asperger’s to host SNL, or at least the first one to admit it.”. Now, right now I think you are thinking about asparagus. THIS IS A SERIOUS TALK AND ASPERGERS IS NOT THE SAME AS ASPARAGUS (you are not saying a bad word ether). So… what is Asperger’s? What are the signs that a person has it or not?

Asperger’s syndrome is a type of autism, where people with Asperger’s have a hard time making friends, but have almost NO fear. It was named by a psychiatrist (a person that studies mental disorders) named Hans Asperger. But because the life of Hans Asperger is actually unknown, people are debating that they should change the name.

WARNING, THIS SECTION IS FOR ADULTS. ASK A PARENT IF YOU WANT TO READ THIS. If you want to know if your child has Asperger’s, here are common symptoms of Asperger’s. First of all, kids that have Asperger’s HATE cuddling. They will refuse or walk away from you if you try hugging them. Second of all, kids that have Asperger’s often laugh, but not for good purposes! Kids that have Asperger’s laugh when they shouldn’t, at times when it is inappropriate. Third, kids with Asperger’s will echo the words that you say. For example, if you say to your child “Say you’re sorry!”, your child will copy that every single time if they have Asperger’s. More symptoms include talking about only one topic, loneliness, using hand gestures to signal what they want, and habit of sticking to the same routine. If your child has ALL of these characteristics, call your nearest psychiatrist RIGHT AWAY and try to overcome the Asperger’s.

Asperger’s is a really serious metal issue, but there sometimes advantages to it, as I said before, Elon Musk has Asperger’s and he grew up from being a “weirdo” to being a popular dude that runs MANY businesses. But if someone you know has Asperger’s, call a doctor or a psychiatrist to deal with it. Here are some other ways to deal with Asperger’s.

  1. Do not act overprotective to your child, or else it will set them off!
  2. Embrace them with their talents, so their behavior can change.
  3. Provide positive feedback to your child.
