Hello again, everybody! I just read a comic strip (like Calvin and Hobbes, not “Superman”) collection, and it was full of “Big Nate” comic strips. If you are reading this and watch “Big Nate” on Paramount Plus or on Nickelodeon, you might have a vague idea of the comic strip. But I have seen parts of the TV show, and I don’t really like it.

But what is “Big Nate”? Who is its creator? And why is it so popular?? This is where this blog comes in.

So, Big Nate is a syndicated comic strip made by Lincoln Peirce (pronounced as “purse” as he says himself). The comic strip started on January 7, 1991 (at least 33 years ago), with this strip. It still is running today and I suggest you read it!

The characters you need to really know are….

Nate: the main character. He’s an arrogant, short, sloppy, sixth grader. He’s the main icon in the strip, even though he has bad qualities. He is a very good chess player, only prevented from being “number 1” by his “rival” Artur. He still is a lovable character, and helps his friends whenever. He also loves cartooning, and always is making comics in class, whether they are making fun of his school or a saga including some of his original characters, like Dr Cesspool and Biff and Chip!

Francis: The (usually) straight man of the group, Francis Pope (get it?) is Nate’s best friend (alongside Teddy, who we’ll get to later!) and also arguably the smartest of the group (even though Nate says the title belongs to himself). Francis was the first character in Big Nate to appear that WASEN’T a member of Nate’s family, his debut is linked here.

Teddy: The newest member of the group, Teddy only appeared in Big Nate four years after the comic strip’s debut (his debut is here). He’s more of a jokester than Francis, but is more intelligent than Nate is! He’s very easy going, and his middle name is a square root symbol (aka a radical)!

All the other characters I’m not going to say, but here’s a list from the world’s most reliable/unreliable source: WIKIPEDIA!! (here’s the link by the way) But there also is a book series of the comics so be careful!

The series is popular for its woes of middle school, humor, and sometimes drama! I really hope you enjoy reading about Nate’s insane mishaps!

Okay, this was a short blog.

Um… next week I might post the next installment of Kid Icarus Explained: Suited and Rebooted. Or the week after. Once I get my creative issues fixed. Here’s the latest installment if you want to take a look.

See you guys later… I guess.
