Hello everyone! If any of you have read the graphic novel “Smile” by the critically acclaimed author Raina Telgemeier, then you might wonder how braces are put on, and have a basic understanding on what it’s like to have them. Today, I’m going to be telling you the process of how the braces are put on. How do I know though?
… because I got them a few days ago.
So what they do first is that the orthodontists put a type of powder on your teeth that is literally from a type of rock ground up into the powder. This helps the braces to be put on easily during the process.
Next, they put a lot of different types of gel on, different ones which include the glue that is applied to get the brackets of the braces to stick on. After cleaning out the person’s mouth with water and an air suction. Then the orthodontists use a special light on each of the teeth that have been applied the glue so that the glue can melt or harden. They do each side separately, so the process is very tedious.
Now for the big part! The orthodontists use the special light again on all of your teeth. Then, they put on the brackets, one by one. If the glue dries up, then they use the light again to melt the glue. After that, they put on the wire. It starts out to be a bit long at first, but when they are done putting the sets on, the orthodontists cut the wire to make it shorter. After that, they’re done!
Now for what it’s like….
Everything you bite hurts.
See you guys later!
