Hey everyone! Today, I’m focusing on a bit more of a mundane topic instead.
You see, I just visited my friend’s house. Let’s call her Kathy (of course, that is far from her real name, but it’s been changed for her privacy). There, I got to meet Kathy’s cat. Let’s call the cat Emmie (again, not her real name, privacy issues). Being the sweet cat she was, Emmie rubbed her scent all over me and let me pet her soft, fluffy fur. And then it hit me.
This is the fourth cat I’ve pet in my entire life.
…ISN’T THAT CRAZY!!!!
I’ve always contemplated if I like cats or dogs. To be fair however, I am more of a dog person than a cat person (I have a dog myself), so I’ll try to be honest with all of my dog and cat encounters.
First, my dog encounters. I’ve met and pet about…
fifteen? Twenty? Whatever the number is, I’ve sure pet a lot of dogs during my life.
I grew up with dogs; my old neighbor Mary (not her real name) had a dog named Sunflower (also not her real name). Every single dog I met, I asked if I could pet it. Heck, even Angie (an acquaintance to the Our Sunday Project Community, not her real name) got a little dog of her own! Everywhere I went as a kid, I saw dogs my whole life!
…the same could not be said for cats.
In public, I have seen a lot of strays and a few wildcats, but I’ve only pet about four cats. One was a black cat named Beta (not her real name, again) owned by an old woman who my sister and I were close to. All I remember is that she let us (my sister and I) pet her for a few seconds, scampered off and we never saw her again.
The next two were owned by the same person: a friend of my mom’s in Norway. We visited their house and interacted with their two cats. One was a dark grey cat, who was trying to leave the house, but my sister and I waved sticks and blades of grass in front of it so that it couldn’t leave, so it could play (now that I recall that moment, the cat was more irritated than excited to see us dangling random objects in front of it).
The other was an orange cat, who I only remember petting him while he was on a bunk bed. I think he also clawed or bit us lightly, but I’m not sure.
And the fourth one was my friend’s cat! Crazy!
The main reason why I emphasize the fourth cat is because she defied my expectation of what cats were like.
I always saw in different kind of media that cats were mean, savage and arrogant creatures, so I didn’t really like them that much. But then I read the manga A Man And His Cat by Umi Sakurai and I started to love cats a little more!
The manga is about two characters: Fuyuki Kanda, a formerly world-renowned pianist whose wife recently passed away, leaving him alone (his kids are already fully grown), and Fukumaru, an Exotic Shorthair cat who gets adopted by Kanda to keep him company. The manga centers around their times together, along with Kanda’s friends, one who adopts a cat of his own. I recommend the manga for people who not only love cats, but also slice-of-life manga!
…so anyways, back to real life cats.
What Emmie did was show me that some cats actually like a person’s company, and can be really gentle and sweet (she didn’t even bite me or scratch me not even once!). Heck, we even had a conversation when we were led to the upstairs of Kathy’s room!
>I look in the room, to see Emmie sitting in front of the room, looking at me<
Emmie: …>meows<
>I come closer, to see that this room has her cat tower, with the bathroom being her food and water dishes. Then I look at the cat<
Me: So, this is your humble abode?
Emmie: …>meows again<
Overall, I still am more of a dog person, but that doesn’t mean I like cats less!
Oh! And before we end the blog, I just want to address that there probably won’t be an installment for Kid Icarus Explained: Suited and Rebooted for a long time. I haven’t played the game for almost a year now, so once I pick up the 3Ds once more, I’ll write more about the skies of Kid Icarus: Uprising! For now: here’s the latest update! Sorry to keep you waiting!
See you next week!
