When I started 7th grade, we would read a book that was called Flipped, by Wendelin Van Draanen. We never got to finish the book, but I got to read it, AND BOY IS IT GOOOOOOOD. This is my review on this wonderful book, because it is just something a 7th grader like me has to read.

The story is about two eighth graders named Bryce Loski and Juli Baker. The story is in first person, so the book switches the perspective of the characters every chapter. Bryce Loski is a kid that moved in Juli’s neighborhood, and hates Juli, because she is annoying and being lovey to Bryce. His dad, Frank Loski, also hates the Bakers and the fact that Juli’s uncle is disabled, laughs at it and thinks that it is funny. Bryce’s mother thinks that the Baker’s are a really nice family, and hates the fact that her spouse thinks that they are uncivilized. Bryce has a friend named Garret, too.

Juli, on the other hand, likes Bryce and thinks that he is a really kind person. She’s lonely and thinks of Bryce as her love interest. She loves nature and is really smart. Throughout the story, Juli hangs out in a sycamore tree before school. But her love is shattered when some people cut the tree down in room for a new building for someone. She is heartbroken about the loss, and this ends up to become one of the most important parts in the book.

But in case you are wondering, this was when Bryce and Juli were in elementary school, and in sixth grade, and in SEVENTH GRADE AS WELL! Now, the story takes place in eighth grade, after chicks hatching out of eggs for a science project. Juli’s family reveals to her that the landlord actually owns their house, saying that it is not their own. And Bryce is having peer pressure on his friend, Garret, who is making fun of the “retarded” family. Juli then has second thoughts for Bryce, and then Bryce has some feelings for Juli! What will happen next? Will the Loski’s change their ways? Will Juli ever stop jumping to conclusions about Bryce? And no, I’m not going to TELL you! You have to read the book for yourself! I already spoiled you all about the Kid Icarus series, you find about it yourself! If you don’t, read Diary of a Wimpy Kid or something!

Happy reading (or not)!
