Hey Everyone,

You may be bored of my book reviews every Monday or might not find them interesting anymore. Well, today I want to share with you some exciting news!

Getting the Covid Vaccine!

From the beginning of the pandemic, the whole world was waiting for the COVID vaccine. Finally, the vaccine was approved in December of 2020 for adults. My parents got both the doses in January without any problem. But the answer about vaccine safety for children was not known. If you remember my blog on the heroes of the Covid 19 vaccine, I had mentioned getting the Covid vaccine whenever it gets approved for ages 12-15. Well, that was true! On May 10th morning, I heard about the COVID vaccine approval by the FDA for children ages 12-15. On Friday, May 14th, my mom asked me, “Janavi, do you want to get the vaccine today?” That was shocking, as she had just brought it up. A few students in my class had just received their first dose. I said, “Sure, I guess.” I was so scared. I had heard my mother talking about people with vaccine side effects, but I knew that it’s a silly thing to worry about. Soon around 5:00 pm, my mother drove me to the vaccination center where Midtown pharmacy was giving the COVID vaccine. On my way, I asked her, is it the Pfizer vaccine?
“Why are you asking that”? She said in a curious voice, “Because I prefer that over Johnson and Johnson,” I added. Johnson and Johnson was approved by the CDC but was held back after few young women had brain clots. Don’t worry about that, mom said. Pfizer is safe in children and adults.

Soon we reached the vaccination center. I had to fill a form that had some of my personal information that I had to put down until it was my turn. There were many kids my age getting the vaccine. Within minutes the center was filled with people. A kind nurse asked me to sit down and told me to stay comfortable. She was very nice. She distracted me by talking to me about school and I was a little nervous at first but then she vaccinated me. “That’s it,” I said shockingly. “Yes,” she said. “Sit down for a couple of minutes in that chair and let me know if you’re having an allergic reaction,” as she directed me to the chair in the waiting area. I sat on the chair for about 15 minutes and filled in my vaccination card for the second dose. I didn’t feel anything but a little dizzy. My mother took me home and gave me a pill to relieve pain. When I woke up, I was really tired and slept a lot. When I raised my right arm, it felt heavy. But after a couple of hours, I felt fine. I am glad I got my first dose and feel safe.

If you’re 12-15 years old, I would recommend you to get the vaccine right now so you don’t get sick due to Covid. I’m getting my second dose in three weeks from the first dose and two weeks after getting my second dose, I will be 100% immune. That means five weeks from now I will be ready to enjoy my summer break and outdoor activities. But for now, I will keep my mask on and stay safe! I hope you do the same too.
