Saturday April 8th 2023 marked the most fun and the biggest event in my life. It was the day of the Gunyo Cholo for my cousins Nova, Abby, and I. The day was the official party date that followed up with the pooja ceremony we had in February. Overall the night in my opinion was perfect from the food, the performances, and the clothes everything felt right and was perfect.

Throughout the night my cousins and I sat on a decorated bench on a stage taking pictures with all the guests who came to celebrate with us. During this time we had light conversations with the guests full of “Congrats” on their behalf and “Thank you” on our behalf. Accepting gifts and hearing the “CLICK” of the cameras was only a portion of the night. The most fun part of the night began when Bijaya Didi greeted the guests and the performances began.

The first performance of the night began with the entrance of our family to the upbeat song “Darhsan Salam”. All 10 of us entered through a door before walking to the dance floor and free styling our dance to the beat of the song. My favorite performances of the night were the dances of Utsuk, Agie, Mama and Maiju, Prisha and I, and my top favorite was the father daughter dance with my dad and I. Bishnu Mama and Shardha Maiju’s dance was amazing, both of them loved the song they picked and absolutely nailed the choreography. However, it was Utsuk’s song that really gained the attention of the crowd, with lyrics such as “Kalo kothi gala ma” and “Raksi ko talai ma”, accompanying the fun environment of the song it really caught the attention of the crowd.

I also loved Agie’s performance to the song Nepali Babu. The song’s upbeat lyrics and melody side by side with Agie’s energetic dance moves really constructed a perfect performance. After a quick dinner break, performances started once again and this time it was time for Prisha and I to perform. As the music blasted through the speakers the crowd went wild when they heard the first song. The mix of songs we performed consisted of two Hindi songs and one Nepali song that required a lot of energy. I pushed through the performance trying to catch my breath when I could after all of the bouncy moves. When the performance ended, as we exited the dance floor the crowd once again went wild for the show we had just put on. Yet even after the vibrant performance of Prisha and I, my most favorite performance was the father daughter dance from my dad Nabin and I. When the iconic father daughter song “Chori Malai Bhagi Bhagi Na Satau” blared through the speakers the crowd cheered for us and even screamed the lyrics out during the performance. The performance ended with multiple people from the audience screaming “ONCE MORE”. My dad and I hugged and bowed on stage while the audience still cheered us on after we left.

In conclusion, I am very happy with how the event turned out to be and am thankful for all the guests who attended to celebrate such a special event with us.
