As Nepali’s, our country has the most unique flag out of all the countries in the world. Unlike other countries whose flags are quadrilateral and rectangular, the Nepali flag is triangular almost looking like a set of mountains. However, just like other flags, Nepal’s flag also has a meaning and its importance to the country. The color, the shape, the border and the symbols of the flag all have its own meaning and its importance to the overall appearance of the modern flag.

First the shape of the flag consists of two pennons that represents two things. The first thing the shape of the flag is used to represent are the Himalayan mountains of Nepal where the highest point on earth remains on Mt. Everest. Secondly, the two triangles also show the two main religions in Nepal which include Hinduism and Buddhism. Additionally, the red triangle shape represents victory in Hinduism ever since the period of Mahabharata and Ramayana. Next, the bright red color of the Nepali flag symbolizes the brave souls and efforts of the Nepalese people. While the main color of the flag is red, the blue border also has a very important meaning. The color blue is a color of peace therefore, the blue shows the peacefulness of Nepal and the harmony of the country ever since the birth of Gautam Buddha in Lumbini Nepal.

Finally, the symbols of the Nepalese flag such as the sun and the crescent moon stands for the hope that the country will last for as long as the sun and the moon. The two symbols also represent the nature of the Nepalese people. For example, the moon shows that the Nepalese people are calm, while the sun shows the Nepalese people are also fierce. Another importance of the symbols is that the moon symbolizes the cool temperatures in the northern part of Nepal, and the sun represents the warm temperatures of the southern part of Nepal. A super cool fact that many don’t know is that there once were faces on the sun and the moon of the flag during the time of monarchy in Nepal. However, they were removed to help modernize the flag and to transition the country into democracy.

In conclusion, each part of the flag of Nepal has meaning and importance from shape, border, colors, and symbols.
