Hi guys.
It’s nearing *that* day of the year.
In which children run around the streets at night being creepy little plebs, going on sugar rushes, and people scare children by tricking them into thinking they’ll get candy when all there is is a scare.
It’s called Halloween.
(I explained that in the worst way possible.)
(Oh well.)
Two years ago, I wrote about my experience of going to a Halloween store and picking out a costume.
(I’m not talking about the one from last year- that was merely a continuation of my VERY VERY LONG story arc, The Arrival of the Apocalypse. I wrote it during my Neogang phase, and if you want to read it, the first part is here: https://oursundayproject.com/fnf-covers-woo/)
I’ve gotten a lot better at putting my thoughts into words, so be warned that the blog from two years ago is very…poorly written.
And I sound far too much like Hortensia for my taste.
(For people who some reason do *not* play Fire Emblem: Engage- that means I sound hyper and childish. And very close to a Bratty Half-Pint.)
If you want to go read that, here’s the link: https://oursundayproject.com/getting-my-halloween-costume-the-worst-experience-ever/ (As you can already see- use of hyperbole.)
But anyway.
That was me then.
AND THIS IS ME NOW.
…
who still is very scared of Halloween stores.
This year, I was NOT looking forward to going into any sort of Halloween store.
But I needed a costume for the Our Sunday Project Halloween Party.
And online shopping is very unreliable for Halloween costumes.
Leaving us with no other *good* choice, we had to enter various Halloween stores.
The first time we visited a Halloween store, it was because we were going to the World Market and it was…right there.
Hence, Spirit Halloween.
My sister was scared to enter, so we left her at the entrance. I don’t blame her, however.
WHO PUTS MOTION SENSING ANIMATRONICS AT THE ENTRANCE OF A HALLOWEEN STORE?
…these people, apparently.
So, as I saw the masks section (which tends to creep me out) along with a bunch of other creepy animatronics, I decided to stick to the Kids section for a bit. Which consisted of costumes such as:
- Jax from The Amazing Digital Circus
- Mario from…Super Mario
- Huggy Wuggy from Poppy Playtime
- Fortnite Costumes (unnamed due to lack of importance)
- Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family
- etc. (et cetera, and all the rest)
However.
The “weapons section” (by this, I mean a bucket/cylindrical container with multiple *plastic* weapons in it) was nearby.
And I saw a huge-looking scythe.
I picked it up.
And a feeling of power was placed in my hands like a diadem on a prince.
I felt unstoppable.
(okay i’m being poetic i just really liked carrying around a scythe)
So I walked in circles around the costumes saying:
“I speak for the Elusian throne. I shall now take your lives, your souls…”
“…And the rings.”
(quoted by Princess Ivy of Elusia.)
While I was being all high and mighty with my scythe, this little girl turned the corner. She saw me and immediately freaked out.
And I got freaked out too.
I think I either said, “Hello there,” or “Sorry.”
Or both.
But anyway.
I eventually had to leave the kids section.
And venture “iNtO tHe uNkNoOoOoOwNNN”
(…it’s gonna be stuck in your head forever now.)
I found my mom and cousin Eugene, and we looked through the costumes to see if there was anything interesting.
We found a Jesus Christ costume, some weird nun costumes, some movie-based costumes (Coraline) but nothing we were looking for.
So we decided to leave.
A simple task, if it wasn’t for a child who was constantly afraid.
…i.e. (id est, that is) me.
I kept getting scared of the motion-sensing animatronics. No matter how far away I was.
(Okay, no exaggeration- within 3 meters was too much.)
The one that scared me at this distance? The Princess of Death or Angel of Death or something.
It was just normal, until you went near it. (Which is what my cousin did.)
After which it started whispering demonically, then it shot up and screamed.
And I freaked out.
“Freaked out” in the terms of a skittish baby rabbit.
And this was somehow humorous.
After which we left.
Only to have to go to another Halloween store. This was more recently to the time I am writing this.
This was…
PARTY CITY.
Which I kept getting scared at.
I kept feeling like Death himself had a cold hand on the back of my neck.
(Which is the best way to describe such a feeling.)
I had to remedy this quickly. Else I would suffer for a good two hours.
So, I walked over to the weapons section. (Staying carefully away from the more horrifying costumes, of course.)
And within a few seconds, I found exactly what I was looking for.
A scythe- large and thin, yet easy to swing around.
I walked around with it and felt…safer, somehow.
Now if anyone were to surprise me, I would simply hit them.
This was very reassuring. I still did not deliberately go near anything that could inspire fright.
e.g. (exempli gratia, good example) the animatronics. Which I did not notice until we exited the store.
My sister, whilst looking for a gargoyle mask, found a mask of…Aristotle.
(Which, arguably, would have been just as good as a gargoyle.)
But, after we finally found a good basis for our costumes (my sister a gargoyle, my mother Kratos, and myself a modern version of the Grim Specter himself), we checked out and left.
However, it did not help that it was now dark out.
And I had dreams of Eldritch Monster Luigi.
…THAT WAS FUN-
So, was it entertaining? Upon review.
Do I want to do it again? No.
Will I, invariably, end up doing it again? Perhaps.
I was glad I made it through unscathed.
Happy Spooky Month to all 😀
If you had any interesting Halloween experiences, feel free to share!
But anyways, see you in the podcast!
