On February 4th, 2022, I woke up at 6:35 to see the grand opening of the Winter Olympics for 2022. And all I can say is it was AMAZING! All the athletes walked out onto the stadium, waving flags (the guy for the Czech Republic swung his big flag around and hit someone in the head). A girl walks in, holding a snowflake above her head saying the country’s name, in English then in Chinese. You may be wondering, why are they holding snowflakes? I’m getting to that. Then a guy gave a speech followed by another guy. But the highlight was the fireworks and the amazing choir performance. They sang a beautiful song, and there were people holding glowing birds. At the end of the song, they all came together to form a heart. Some fireworks were lit, too, and made the Olympic rings. All the snowflakes assembled together to make a huge snowflake. The Olympic torch was lit, and passed on to others, who lit the flame inside the giant snowflake, symbolic to how the world was competing in the Olympics. The snowflake rose up into the sky, and would stay there. The flame was lit by a girl and a boy, for gender equality. Overall, the performance was awesome. But I would have enjoyed it more if the people doing the commentary talked about the 224 US athletes INSTEAD OF POLITICS. Please, why don’t they focus on the Olympics? The people watching the opening of this event were watching to see and hear about the Olympics, not politics! They could just go on Facebook or Twitter to hear about politics, not the Olympics opening ceremony! Anyway, the performance overall was awesome, and you should really watch it yourself, I recommend it! All the best to all the USA athletes!
