It all started with a visit to the school library.
Last Thursday, I was trying to look for a good graphic novel, but I struggled to find one that was my fit, and a book that I haven’t read yet. I couldn’t find the perfect book for reading, with thrills. I was about to leave the library, when the school librarian, Ms. Liepert, told me that I could ask her for book recommendations.
As a fan of the Harry Potter and The Witch Boy series, I asked Ms. Liepert for a fantasy book, but with humor included in it. The book (or should I say “manga {Japanese graphic novels}) she gave me is on the title of this blog; Mashle: Magic and Muscles.
I loved the book so much and am currently waiting for the next volumes of the manga (I have finished the first 9). I would recommend this book for anyone who loves the Harry Potter series and manga, because this book series gives us a mix of both.
The series revolves around a world called the Magic Realm, where everyone has magic and is distinguished how strong their magic is by the number of marks on their face (one mark means normal level, two marks means strong, and three means very OP {overpowered}). However, in the woods, there lives Mash Burnedead, a deadpan, cream puff eating teenage boy who, for unknown reasons, has no magical powers (and therefore has no marks on his face), but makes the inability up with his impeccable strength.
He is then forced to go to magic school, in order for him to show that people that have no magic ability can’t be ostracized from their community (by becoming a Divine Visionary, the most powerful wizards that control peace and harmony in the Magic Realm). He is given a fake mark (a lightning bolt shape under his left eye, seems like a reference of some familiar “boy who lived”, HUUUHHH?) and passes all the enrollment tests without using magic.
He meets new friends, but the school is in danger from a magic-stealing group called Innocent Zero, and only Mash and his friends can stop the evil group. But how will Mash fight crime while also keeping his grade up AND achieving his dream to become a Divine Visionary…at the same time?
With the perfect combination of action, drama, and comedy, Mashle: Magic and Muscles will leave you begging for more at the last page of every book!
Happy reading!
