A few days ago, I went to my school library. There was a whole load of books to pick, but I liked the more funny ones, and a book that was not that long. And while digging through the Realistic Fiction books, I found a book called “Milo: Sticky Notes and Brain Freeze by Alan Silberberg” and I read the blurb, and I knew instantly that I found the right choice. And now that I finished reading it, I am recommending this book to YOU all! Here’s what’s happening in the story…
Our story begins with a seventh grader named Milo Cruikshank, who finds frustration wherever he goes like carved pumpkins in September, and that his name isn’t “cool”. But he is a kid that is a lovable geek that loves speaking his favorite language (that he made up): SAPTOGEMIXLIKS (ex: “Glaxo meeprik flojib Looloo” means “My sister eats her fingernails and sleeps with a teddy bear named Snuggy”). He also has moved five times, from a house with a satelite TV, to the home he lives in right now.
At first, you may think that Milo is a real cretin at first, but the reason why he has moved five times and he has hard thoughts about everything is because…. his mother died. When Milo was 10, his mother passed away because of a tumor in her brain. After that, Milo’s father tried to get rid of everything about her, trying to make Milo and his sister forget about her to make things normal again. Along the way, Milo makes friends with Marshal Hickler and Hillary Alpert, but has never told them about his parents death and has never cured himself from the trauma. Will he ever reveal to his friends about the case, or will he never feel his mom’s warmth ever again? Read the book to find out!
This book is for all ages, and it is a hopeful and humorous story about a boy who has troubles in his life. Happy reading! Oh! Also, if you already read the book, there is a sequel called “Milo and the Reset Button”. See you later!
