Hey everyone! It’s been awhile since I have posted, and I have a very good reason why…
It’s because I am laz- er- in Alaska right now as I write this thing! I also went to Washington (the state) as well, as well as a quick trip to British-Columbia (a part of Canada)! I’ll give you some of the highlights of my trip!
1. A Lot of Wildlife
With Washington, Canada and Alaska all the way up north, you’re definitely bound to find some rare animals you have never seen before! I found this out the hard way! On our (by “our”, I mean my sister, me and my mom) first day in Seattle, we settled down on a nearby pier. We looked below us and we saw the most BEAUTIFUL jellyfish you have ever seen! We later learned that jellyfish was a lion’s mane jellyfish, and that they are very venomous. Good thing we saw it on a pier and not in the water!
Not only are jellyfish present in Seattle, but so are cetaceans (dolphins and whales!), pinnipeds and sea otters! In Seattle, we were lucky to see a sea lion swimming around a few rocks, and on our way to Canada, we saw a pod of orcas from afar! We saw sea otters but only in an aquarium, but you can also see some in the wild, if you’re lucky!
2. MOUNTAINS. Enough said.
You know what mountain is the most famous in Seattle? Mt. Rainer, of course! So what did we do when we came to Seattle? Take a tour bus to Mt. Rainer, of course! This mountain has many breathtaking views to relax at, and somewhere along the lines, there are gift shops! For people who want to see the views of Seattle, THIS IS A MUST!!!
I haven’t gone mountain hiking in Alaska yet, but it’s home to Denali (the mountain, not the city), the tallest mountain in all of North America, which I really want to see!
3. The Zoos Have Very Cool Animals
You expected this, didn’t you?
I love talking about many of the zoos I have been to, and the Woodland Park Zoo and the Alaska Zoo are no exceptions! In the Woodland Park Zoo, there were two Komodo dragons, a hippopotamus, and there even were shows going on showing off two raptors (birds of prey, not actual raptors, sadly), a porcupine, and even a pig named Bailey (I love her)!
The Alaska Zoo had animals that were more native to Alaska. We saw wolverines, a great grey owl named Errol (like the Weasley’s owl in Harry Potter), ravens, moose calves and three types of bears: two black bears, two brown bears and two polar bears! It was so much fun (although Abby’s legs hurt from walking as usual)!
There is more to discover in Alaska as my summer break vacations continue! Seeya!
