Hey everyone! I know that last week, I wrote a blog about the Adventures of Tintin, an old comic series that is very action packed and funny (for kids) and also dark and nostalgic (for adults). In other words, Tintin has quirky characters, is action-packed, and has illustrations on every page (it should be a “Branches” series since hey! it fits all of the requirements!). I also told you all in the blog about my favorite Tintin adventures!

So in this blog, I’m going to be showing and telling you all about my favorite Tintin moments (by favorite I mean the ones I think are the funniest). First, all of the adventures are part of the list that I said in the last blog. They are all my favorite Tintin adventures and therefore I have read them (so no Calculus Affair)The adventures are also going to be listed in chronological order (the adventures that are created first are shown first!).

First starting.. with the Blue Lotus!

At first, this scene looks very heartwarming. Tintin saves Chang Chong-Chen from the flooded river and Tintin tells Chang about some funny Chinese stereotypes in Europe. However, the funny part about this scene is because of the picture of the look of the stereotypical Chinese man outfit. That is because on the next page…

….Thomson and Thompson are dressed in the exact same outfit and are made fun of by the Chinese residents, including Chang and Snowy.

Next… The Black Island!

If you think that Tintin is a very sincere and kind boy that wouldn’t curse like a sailor like Captain Haddock would, well…

And that’s not the only moment in the Black Island that shows Tintin being so reckless and out of character. If only Tintin went out of the gate instead of jumping…

When Tintin was chasing down a crook with Thomson and Thompson, Tintin got on a plane and, wanting to follow him, Thomson and Thompson got on another plane and… see for yourself….

Later, when Tintin gets into the enemy base territory, it continues to show how the two dumb detectives are doing on their flight.

Now… The Shooting Star!

If you think “The Black Island” showed a window of Tintin‘s stupidity, then look at what he sees when a real emergency is called and he decides to investigate. He thinks that the threat is a spider…

So after a huge earthquke happens, which Tintin believes to be the end of the world (according to Professor Phostle), a funny set of events happens that make us go “Uhhhhh…”

Fast forwarding when Tintin and friends look for the meteorite that tried to end the world, Captain Haddock meets an old friend of his… with a strange ritual greeting.

And now.. Prisoners of the Sun!

Basically any time in the book when Haddock gets spit by a llama.

So then, at the end of the adventure, Haddock is so pissed from the llamas spitting on him that he drinks water to…um… give them a taste of their own medicine. Haddock also lists one of my favorite quotes in the series.

Next, the dynamic duo… Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon!

Since these two are some of my favorite Tintin adventures, I put them together just because. My favorite scene in “Destination Moon” has to be Professor Calculus’s ranting after Captain Haddock says he’s “acting the goat”.

Calculus is so mad, he even lifts up a guy in his way that is TWICE his size!

He even goes far to driving (since he can’t drive) to the unfinished rocket, saying one of my favorite lines in the series.

After Professor Calculus loses his memory due to his ranting, Captain Haddock tries to bring his memory back (since the moon project is impossible without him). After tripping over his disguise of a ghost (to scare the professor to get his memories back), Captain Haddock yells at Calculus for not being scared and thinks that the professor enjoys watching him “acting the goat”. Saying the phrase…. actually cures him.

The scene is even funnier after Calculus thanks the definitely not-sober sailor. See for yourself.

Explorers on the moon has a funny but dark scene when the two detectives Thomson and Thompson need to be lightened up by the radio, which makes it worse…

Lastly… Tintin In Tibet!

This one has a lot. When Haddock and Tharkey (a Nepali sherpa guide) find out that Tintin has fallen into a crevasse, they try to rescue him. The only problem is that he’s already out.

There also is a time when the three (Tintin, Haddock and Tharkey) had to go in one tent. You can imagine how that turned out.

Then there’s the scene when Tintin meets Haddock at a village in Tibet. While they are having a heartfelt conversation about devotion and friendship, the village kids in the background are thumbing their noses.

Why do you ask? The kids stuck out their tongues at Haddock, since it is a greeting gesture in Tibet. The captain, however thought it was rude and thumbed his nose back. And since the kids have no idea wha that means, they think it is a greeting gesture for Europeans. That is what makes this scene so funny.

The best scene is when Haddock says goodbye to the kid that lead them to the field to find the yeti- Tibetan style. So he sticks his tongue back at the kid, only for the kid to thumb his nose back at him (again, since he thinks that is “goodbye” European style). This leads to Haddock becoming overly silly towards the boy. Don’t know what I mean? See for yourself.

I know that there are some funny scenes that I have missed, but if I had to keep on going, this would be a long blog.

Happy laughing!
