Today, I am sharing with you the book Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmidt. You may know him as the author of the Wednesday Wars that was published in 2007. I haven’t read it but I am looking forward to reading it soon! If you’re into coming of age/middle grade books, then I recommend you read a lot of books written by Mr. Schmidt.

Doug Swieteck, an 8th grade teen, is living in the year 1968, the time of The Vietnam War and Apollo 11. He now lives in ¨Stupid Marysville¨, in New York. His life is full of challenges. He lives with his abusive father, a brother who is accused of robbery and another brother who is permanently injured in war. To make things worse, school is not easy for him. Over the weekend, he works as a delivery boy for a Deli. Lil Spicer, a daughter of a deli owner and Doug´s boss´s daughter work together to find out new sides of themselves. In this book, Doug tries to readjust his relationship with his abusive father, his classmates and tries to stay calm when his older brother who has been wounded, has come back from fighting in Vietnam. At the end of the story, Doug tries to find himself and try to change his lonely and depressing world. How will Doug do that? Will he be okay? If you like middle grade books, this book is just for you!

I know that thanksgiving is over, but I would again like to say that I am thankful for the people who take time out of their lives to read my reviews and the people that support me through my writing journey. I hope that my writing journey expands in the near future as it is my ambition to write a book someday. I hope everyone has a nice snowy December!
