The Smithsonian National Zoo has had a lot of animals, but the one that is the most famous that is the cutest is —- a panda named Xiao Qi Yi.
Xiou Qi Yi was born in August 21 last year! He was so tiny, that when he was born, you could not even see him in Mei Xiang’s (his mother) arms – or should I say paws….
After a few months, he grew loads of fur and had a really loud bark. The people were deciding a name for the cute endangered little guy. Then they did a voting for the name by asking all their panda fans, soon they finally got the results, they decided to name the panda cub Xiao Qi Yi. It means “Little Miracle” in Chinese!
On January 29 2021, the Smithsonian Zoo launched a video of Xiao Qi Yi playing with toys and the zookeeper crooning baby talk to him, like “Sweet Potatoes, Yummy!” or “This is how You Eat your Lunch Upside Down.” Not surprisingly, it went viral. Now, Xiao Qi Yi is the cutest and most famous panda in the Smithsonian Zoo.
Keep on being cute, Xiou Qi Yi, you are going to save the panda population!
