“Help me! Please, help me!” These are the words 15-year-old Akira Kurusu hears as he saves a woman from being attacked by a drunk man. Upon helping the woman, the man hits his head, and accuses the innocent high schooler of attacking him(Dude. He did nothing to you). The last thing the bewildered and shocked boy hears from the man while being dragged away by the police is, “I’ll sue you!” Little do any of them know, Akira is about to discover a rebellious teen spirit inside of him, his Persona.

Upon being expelled from his school, sent away from home, reenrolled in Shujin Academy, gets a criminal record, and forced to move to Tokyo on probation, the first thing that happens which sparks his adventure, is when he is walking to look for where his new home is, a person bumps into him. He yells, “Excuse me!” to the person who bumped into him. Instead of saying, “Sorry!” The person gives him a side glance, then looks away and keeps walking. Akira gets a bit angry but hears a noise from his phone. A strange red app with an icon like an evil eye has appeared. Akira clicks on it and time suddenly stops. Akira then freaks out, not knowing what happened. After time resumes, and after Akira deletes the app, he finds his new home, Café Leblanc, he meets his caretaker, Sojiro Sakura. After Akira sets up his things, he lies down on his bed and reimagines the incident. I thought I was doing the right thing, Akira think as he remembers being dragged away.

When he looks at his phone, the same app with the evil eye has appeared! But when he taps it, time doesn’t stop! In fact… nothing happens. While staring at the icon, he mysteriously falls asleep, and wakes up in a prison cell with shackles clamped on his arms and legs. A confused Akira can still walk, and grabs the bars holding him back. Two young policewomen say, “You stand before our master! Show some respect!” Upon looking at a desk in the center of a spotlight, there is a creepy man named Igor who talks to him, and wants to talk about ‘his life’. But Igor leaves many of Akira’s questions unanswered, as Akira is still screaming out questions when Igor is done talking. And when Akira meets a boy named Ryuji Sakamoto, things get even weirder…

Who is this mysterious man Igor? What is up with that app on Akira’s phone? And who exactly is Ryuji anyway? Find out by reading the stunning Persona5 manga!*
