Diwali is the festival of lights which signifies the triumph of goodness over evil and is celebrated by Hindus all over the world. This year, more than 10 organizations in Milwaukee including the Hindu Temple of Wisconsin, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh and Sewa USA collaborated on a volunteer project to give back to the community as a part of the Diwali celebration. It was a household supplies and food donation drive. As a youth volunteer leader, I had the opportunity to plan the drive with my youth members of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS). We went to our neighborhood and reached out to family and friends in the community for donations. To my surprise, we were able to collect large donations from our generous community.
The donations were made to the local food pantries and homeless shelters that serve the needy community. A portion of the collected food was donated to inner city school.

I am very happy that this Diwali, I was able to share the joy with the community members who are in need.
