Connecting with the community
The school year has started and I continue to get opportunities to be a part of important community activities. Here, I share some of the important events that I have volunteered for recently.
Sewa Fun Fair:
On Sunday August 27th 2023, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh and Sewa USA Volunteers collaborated to host their annual funfair. This funfair took place at Wirth Park in Brookfield. The event featured a cultural talent show followed with several games, fun activities and food. The funfair was a fundraiser to support underprivileged students’ education at Glendale Hills Middle School. I am grateful that I was able to participate and plan out this event again this year.
Blue Lotus Camp:
On September 2, the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin had hosted a camp event at the Blue Lotus Farm and Retreat Center in West Bend, Wisconsin. This event included several outdoor recreation activities such as hiking, fishing, swimming and a variety of sports at this 64 acres Blue lotus facility. This camp was the first Blue Lotus gathering after the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, volunteers and guests had enjoyed themselves in the beautiful facility. As a sibling of a kid with autism, I felt great about supporting an organization that stands for the noble purpose . I would encourage more people to support the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin in their efforts.
5K Walk/Run event:
This event was organized by organizations like Samabhavana and Sewa Milwaukee on September 16 at Lapham Peak Unit in Delafield. The day was filled with fun activities that included music, dance ,a 5k run or walk, yoga and free food. The charity event was a fundraiser to support eye surgeries and medical care at lower cost for underprivileged individuals in India.
In the near future, I hope to continue giving back to the community through volunteer work . If you are interested in any of these organization’s events, please feel free to contact the organizers as they are always looking for helping hands.
