So, on Friday, January 26th of 2024; my school had Presentation Day.

That’s basically when we show our parents around the school and they get a taste of some of our classes(in this case, 1st, 6th, and 7th Period. For me, that was Math, English, and Latin).

But before all that, we had an assembly, where Choir and Band perform songs for the audience and the entire middle school reflects on our achievements.

Choir performed the songs: the Star-Spangled Banner, Don’t Give Up On Me(that song was supposed to be uplifting, like, “Oh, we’re not giving up even though 1st semester was hard, but I took it as: “Hey parents my grades were disappointing but don’t give up on meeeee), Venga Nel Nostro Coro(I think, the 8th grade ONLY performed that one, so I don’t know how to spell it), and finally, the BROOKFIELD ACADEMY SCHOOL SONG.

YEAH. WE HAVE A SCHOOL SONG. NOBODY KNEW IT EXISTED UNTIL MAYBE LAST WEEK THURSDAY.

But it was fun to perform 😀

And then they announced Honor Roll students. In order of grade(ascending), so 6th, then 7th, then 8th.

I knew some of the kids in 6th Grade, so I applauded. Then the honorable mentions for 7th Grade.

Three students stood up when their names were called. I saw a smart girl I knew, and I was like, “Oh, if she didn’t make honor roll, then I probably didn’t.”

Then they called the actual Honor Roll students. I realized right away that my bestie didn’t make Honor Roll and I went, “WHAT. BUT HE SO SMORT. HOW.”

At this point I was thinking, “Eh. I probably didn’t make it.”

So I sat there as I saw people I knew go up(including one of my friends who is very particular about his grades). I watched them walk around the gym and sit in their respective seats, when suddenly…

“Abby Subedi!”

I froze.

Wait…what?

How did I make Honor Roll?

My History grade was bad, my Science grade was less than perfect…

But I couldn’t keep everyone waiting.

Luckily, the girl in front of me had been called up before me, so I was able to walk down and shake Dr. Bulio’s and Dr. Ricci’s hands. They both congratulated me, and as I walked around, my other teachers gave their congratulations: Ms. Simmerer(step-in Latin teacher this year and French teacher last year, Creative Writing Club manager this year), Mr. Arvold(7th Grade Math Teacher), Mr. Peterson(6th Grade Geography teacher), and Mrs. Harmeyer(6th Grade English Teacher. She also told me I looked, “stunning.” Most likely because I was wearing a shiny dress my mom sewed).

I sat back down, still shocked. I saw Kasha, an 8th grade girl I knew from Creative Writing Club, give me a thumbs-up as she sat back down(she was called too).

So…that was surprising.

After the entire day had passed, including some math exercises(yay), a Socratic circle in English(blegh), and some Latin Mad Libs(“hOwEVer, tHe gRaVy aND oStrIcHEs doN’t sLeEp” “tHeY cArRy thE bAbY oUt oF thE rIver aNd iNtO tHe jAiL”), it was time to go home.

…Where I wanted to put an FNF cover.

But WordPress is being weird.

So I can’t. Sorry 🙁
