Imagine flying on a plane over the cities in the night sky. It would feel amazing right? As the higher the plane goes we get closer to the next layer of the earth’s five atmospheric layers. The fiver layers of the atmosphere are the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and exosphere. Well now your probably wondering whats the difference out of these five layers right? Let me tell you!

The troposphere is the first layer out of the five layers. The troposphere contains three quarters of the mass out of the entire five layers. The air in the troposphere is 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen and 1% water vapor. All the weather happens in the troposphere. The stratosphere is the second layer and this is were the planes fly at so that the weather is not a very big deal. The stratosphere is almost 24% of earths total atmosphere, and 119% of earths total atmospheric gases. The ozone can also be found in 90% of the stratosphere’s upper part. The mesosphere is the coldest atmosphere layer, cold enough to freeze water vapor. The mesosphere is also 31-53 miles above earth.

Earth’s fourth atmospheric layer is the thermosphere. The thermosphere is about 319 miles thick. The thermosphere is home to the International Space Station as it orbits planet earth. The thermosphere protects earth by keeping out harmful radiation. The last layer is the exosphere. The exosphere is a very thin layer and is mostly made out of helium and hydrogen. Carbon dioxide can also be found in the exosphere, since all the gases are very spread out therefore we cannot breathe in the exosphere. The 5 layers of the atmosphere are very different from each other but they are also very important!
