My name is Nova Subedi and I’m working on my Girl Scout Silver Award Project. For this award, I am choosing to do a period product drive.

According to studies (commissioned by Thinx & PERIOD), out of the people who completed the survey:

  • 23% of students struggled to afford period products,
  • 85% say that public schools should provide free period products, and
  • 67% have to miss school just because they don’t have period products.

These studies show that there are many women in our community that don’t have period products to sustain their periods, which is a big problem for girls and women ages 8-45. If you are a girl/woman that knows what a period is or you’ve experienced one, you know how annoying a period is. Well, unlike you and I, there are many girls and women that can’t buy products that girls can usually buy to tame their periods.

Since the average cost of a lifetime supply of pads is $3,439.80, this is hard on families that can’t afford period supplies.

This is why I want to acknowledge this problem.

I contacted a few organizations, but that isn’t enough. So I want you to share this blog post with others to spread the word about this problem in our community. Remember to donate period products so I can donate them to the organizations in need.

I’m counting on you guys!
