(LIT AS IN LITERATURE)

Heyo guys! It’s me again.

A somewhat agitated reader.

I’ve been reading a lot (for school and stuff) and have noticed a few patterns that tick me off. In fact, these patterns tick a lot of people off, apparently. Including a few of my friends that I talk to about literature!

BUT because of this, if any of you are aspiring writers, I have compiled a list of tips for how to write a good series!

Especially since I am >ahem< a

rEfined student of the classical literatures of literacy

I can give some 100% great tips!

success not guaranteed

  • Publish your books in any order you want.

If you publish a prequel before everything people will get mad that the characters they like aren’t in the actual first book. If you publish a sequel then a prequel people will get mad because they have to go back and read all the books for the proper timeline.

They’re going to get mad either way, so just publish however you want! Catering to the audience is basically impossible here.

  • Please no purposeless gag characters.

If you’re making a gag character, try to tie the humor into one of your protagonists. Don’t make it their only trait either. We do not want any Mineta repeats. Nobody really likes that guy.

  • DON’T MILK YOUR SERIES FOR MONEY BY ADDING MORE SERIES.

YOU CAN if you KNOW what you’re doing, but DON’T KEEP ADDING MORE STUFF FOR CLOUT.

DOG MAN AND WINGS OF FIRE ARE THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS

DO NOT DO WHAT THOSE SERIES DID I AM SO TIRED OF THOSE SERIES

TOO MANY BOOKSSSS

  • Try to stay in one genre unless you have a set balance of plot points.

I.E. scattering humor and horror. 1:1 or 2:1 ratio. Don’t go a whole book dark and a whole book funny unless you have a clear reason for doing so. Also, never sacrifice plot for edginess.

(Then I realized my genius has covered everything you need to know in four subcategories. ANY follow ups will follow under one of these umbrellas.)

So there you go! Four tips that will set you on your way to being a great writer. Thank me later.

Share this with a fellow writer to help them out in their writing.

That’s all and thanks for reading!
