Part I: The Giant Pandas

The Giant Pandas are also known as “Charismatic Megafauna”, as well. Many conservationists have capitalized on the Giant Panda for projects so they can protect them, although one group of environmentalists have said “Panda’s are not endangered”, many of the “Chinese officials have said they want Panda’s back on the list of endangered animals”. -Newsela. These Pandas are endangered due to habitat loss and have been upgraded from “endangered” to “vulnerable”.

The IUCN decided to do the survey “China’s Fourth National Panda Survey”. This survey was conducted by thousands of wildlife workers, scientists as well as many volunteered. Since the last Panda survey, the wildlife workers and scientists have counted 1,864 more Pandas. While many of the scientists don’t believe this Fan Zhiyong and the director of the IUCN said that the survey covered more land than usual, he also said this does not mean the entire population is growing. Scientists have different answers on this a lot saying the population should be growing while others say they fear for the worst.

“Climate change is most likely to make things worse for Pandas”, says Jianguo Liu. Jianguo is a student at Michigan State University and he found out that because of climate change the bamboo forests in China could wipe out the bamboos. Since Panda’s habitats are in the bamboo forest without bamboos many Pandas could die. Chinese rules are that there should be no one hunting for the Giant Pandas or cutting down their habitat since they are already endangered.
