Huzzah! I am fourteen now.! Today, I will be sharing things that I loved about my fourteenth birthday. It was my fourteenth birthday on September 12. (No need to wish me a belated happy birthday, it’s too late silly).
Pre- Birthday get together:
On the day before my birthday, one of my buddies Aaryaa invited me to her thirteenth birthday celebration at skateland. I have skated before using my neighbors old skates when I was nine, and I sucked. But as soon as I got there, I was such a baby, I kept holding onto the wall but then I improved. My most favorite part was the unlimited free slushies, the DJ and the arcades. A few hours later, It would be my mini birthday party with Aaryaa and my other friends. My dad picked me, Aaryaa and my other buddy Gargi from Aaryaa’s house so we could go to my place. We got there, and a bunch of others came. This was pretty fun. We took pictures, played games, socialized, painted rocks and joked around. I begged my parents if we could get the party box from crumbl cookies and we did. I prefer good food rather than big parties.
Birthday gifts
The gifts were awesome. Ranging from cards, gift cards, perfume, jewelry, cosmetics, wellness materials but the best one yet, was that I got to sponsor a child.
Joy of giving:
I believe in Sewa. Sewa means selfless service. There’s a proverb that says “The giver never gets tired of giving, but the taker gets tired of taking”. That’s the reason I don’t ask my parents for a lot of gifts. For my birthday, I requested my mom to donate money to Sewa international to a child in India who doesn’t have a resource for a good education. We donated an amount that could help the child for a year. (One dollar per day). At the end of the day, it made my heart happy.
Trip to the Mall:
The next one was going to the mall after school with my aunt for her birthday. The mall is literally a huge jungle and as the indecisive person I am, I was stressed. But luckily, I stopped at the Pink store, and selected a shirt and a hoodie. But I gotta say, the pink shirt was better.
Birthday outfit: On birthdays ever since I was young, I always wore a dress. No matter what. Until the age of eight, I would wear princess gowns and a nice tiara on top of my head. But now, I save my best dress so I can wear it for my birthday. This year, I wore my white cotton dress with beautiful golden white shoes.
Birthday Dinner:
On my birthday, my dad went all out for my birthday dinner. He had set up a barbeque with my friend’s dad and also made momos, which are famous dumplings in Nepal, Sikkim and Tibet, best served with a spicy tangy sauce called achar. My mom just told me that it has been famous in India lately. At the end of the day, I was so full. I felt like I was gonna throw up, it was the best dinner ever. Although my stomach was full, I still had space for cake.
Cake and Treats:
Baking sweet treats is my middle name ever since 2020. My favorite part about birthdays is cake. For the past weeks, I begged my parents to get a cake from some other place else. So, while I was at school, they went to sendiks and got me a yellow buttercream cake! My favorite! Sendiks is so underrated! The highlight of my birthday was the varieties of sweet treats like red velvet cupcakes, cookies from crumble, and a wonderful sheet cake along with different salty snacks and fruit mix. Not to forget, the varieties of soft drinks and candies.
The Fun Continues:
The whole birthday week was fun filled. Even though my birthday is over, I have had a lot of fun this September. Like a fun fair I had helped set up a few days before my birthday, and Oktoberfest at Elm Grove Park. Last but not least, starting school. Which was bittersweet. The change in the weather was horrendous but it was nice to take a long break from summer. I’m looking forward to Dashain this Fall. Yesterday was the last day of “Shradha” Also known as remembering our ancestors and late family members. Looking forward to the festive season of Dashain, Tihar/Diwali, Bhai Tika, Thanksgiving and Christmas. And most importantly, HALLOWEEN!!!!!
