Uh- yeah-

I have not been productive at all this week

But uh ANIMATION

So I noticed people have a little bit of trouble animating, and now that I’ve started to delve into this little world, I’m going to make a tutorial on the basics.

APPS USED: Procreate

Now let’s get started!

First, open Procreate and create a new file.

We’re going to start with a basic blink animation, so draw an eye. It doesn’t have to be complex, in fact, it’s better if it’s not.

Now, click the wrench icon and go to Canvas. Turn on Animation Assist.

You’ll then see a bar at the bottom of the screen as shown in the picture. Click “Add Frame.”

TIP: Change the onion skin color in the settings to something other than black. I use hot pink because it’s my favorite color, but you can use whatever(except white, what’s the point unless you have a black canvas).

Onion skin, by the way, is when your previous layer is transparent so you can see what you drew before!

Now, your frame should look similar to this:

Draw over this layer, but have the eye slightly larger(open).

Draw more layers that gradually close the eye. However, not too gradually, or else your animation will look unnatural.

DO NOT MOVE THE PUPIL!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT AND WILL KEEP YOUR ANIMATION NATURAL!!

Stop when your eye is almost closed, like so:

Now, draw a closed eye. Again, doesn’t have to be complex.

You actually don’t need to do the next step, but I prefer it as it helps the animation.

Make a new layer, click the mouse icon, then Freeform the eye and squish it ever so slightly.

You only need to do this once.

Now, go back to Settings. Turn on Ping-Pong mode and press Play.

If you’re satisfied with your animation(I recommend holding a still frame for your first frame, do this by double clicking the current frame and play around with the Hold Duration slider)export it as a GIF.

Now enjoy your animation!

TA DAAAAAAAAAAAH

WAIT IT GOT UNNECESSARILY SPED UP SO PLEASE TRUST ME THAT IT’LL LOOK GOOD

That’s all for now!! I’ll continue with these if they’re helpful, but I’ll be home next week, so back to FNF covers by default.

Bye!
