Slant rhymes yippiie

Hey y’all!

Long-time readers of my blog may recall that I joined Forensics (aka 4N6) in 7th grade.

And, as expected, I have joined Forensics again!

However, a few things got in the way of getting the ball rolling.

I had Certamen tryouts, and it was important that I attended to make a team for the Princeton tournament.

(I ended up making the A-Team. Thank you, Ovid :D)

However, I got swept up in Certamen, and soon, we were a few weeks into the Forensics season.

One of my friends kept asking me when I would attend a Forensics practice–and I began to get nervous.

Whenever people tend to do something, despite having prior success in the experience, they tend to get nervous.

Perhaps that’s only me.

But I became nervous, assuming that the head coach of my team would reprimand me for being late to joining the team once more.

I finally decided to enter a single meeting, just to play it out.

And my coach was okay with it.

Pretty surprising, considering the guy’s pretty strict otherwise.

Maybe that’s just because I don’t know him too well.

But anyway, he told me to get my piece chosen as quickly as possible so I could compete.

So, as a Certamen kid, I chose the story of “Lycaon and the Flood” from Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

It fit almost perfectly in the category of Serious Solo (my preferred place :D) and it’s MYTHOLOGY

The Tale of Lycaon is narrated mainly by Jupiter (Roman mythology), as he tells the other gods about his encounter with a king named Lycaon. Lycaon was a wicked man who doubted the divinity of the literal KING OF THE GODS–

and boiled human flesh, serving it to jupiter to test his divinity.

YEAH THAT’S FUN–

He ended up getting turned into a wolf for that.

“Foam dripping from his mouth; bloodthirsty still, he turned against the sheep, delighting still in slaughter…”

I love that line!!

As you read this, I will most likely be performing at Oak Creek East Middle School for the first meet of the season!! Wish me luck, and I wish the best for you if you are also in Forensics!!

now have a representation of how nervous I am
