Sleep Deprivation
Did you know that only 48% of humans don’t get enough sleep, and only 50% try to? Us humans spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping, but it seems that people are still sleep deprived. Most of that population are teenagers. And yet even though these are the years that sleep is most vital to us, most of the teenager population severely lacks it. Studies show that the healthy amount of sleep for a teenager would be 8-10 hours. Data had also shown that the average teenager is actually getting about only 7 to 7.5 hours a day, which is not fulfilling or healthy and can cause a decrease in their performance. Studies have shown that driving while sleep deprived, can be even more dangerous than drunk driving. Lack of sleep can also lead to weight gain. Another shocking fact that really tells us how important sleep is that a human can survive 2 weeks without H2O, but only 10 days without sleep. People with creative minds tend to have a harder time falling asleep and tend to stay up longer. Over the course of 3-5 years, sleep deprivation can shrink your brain.
Unhealthy ways to Sleep?
When people actually are getting sleep, you may not realize this but the position you sleep can effect you on the long run. The best sleeping position would be sleeping on your back, because this can prevent future neck and back pain by maintaining a straight and neutral position for your back and neck. Stomach sleeping is the worst kind of sleeping and by all means we should all try to avoid sleeping in this position, for this could strain your back and neck, pulling your stomach towards the bed.
Factual or CAPtual 🧢
We have all seen thousands of sleep remedies and have all wondered at one point, “Do they actually work?” it can be from the most simplest remedies such as drinking a glass of warm milk before bed, to tomato juice and honey. Which to believe? There’s too many. Many of the sleep remedies that actually work are quite simple and logical. But if you are still having a hard time please consult your sleep specialist. Easy reading, and meditation can be a good stress reliever before bed. Just take 5 minutes out of your time, for hours of great sleep. Less coffee and more tea. Herbal teas such as chamomile can help. By you drinking hot tea this can help regulate you body temperature to make sure you sleep comfortably and soundly. You may have tried to tire yourself out to go to bed at least once in your life, but this will not help you, this will, further your discomfort by causing sores and aches before you go to bed. One of the best ways to fall asleep in my opinion that even I enjoy doing is a nice evening walk. This can help clear your mind before sleep. Not too heavy but a nice peaceful walk.
