Kid Icarus Explained: Suited and Rebooted (Part 2: The Angel Out of the Demons)

So where we left off, the evil goddess Medusa is plotting revenge against Palutena, the goddess of light. She then realizes that many, and I mean MANY, monsters. Then she got an idea. The lines maybe went something like THIS.

Medusa: (clears throat, conjures up a megaphone to get everyone’s attention) ATTENTION TO ALL MONSTERS!

(a collection of monsters look at Medusa with uncertainty. The collection of monsters includes Monoeyes, Specknoses, and Komaytos, along with others. An Eggplant Wizard, looks at the goddess suspiciously.)

Eggplant Wizard: And WHAT are you gonna do, snakehead? (snickers) FREE us from this place? I

Medusa: (smirks, knowing that her plan is going well, dismisses her megaphone with a wave of her hand, which disappears in a swirl of black energy) Yes. Yes I will.

Eggplant Wizard: (stops laughing and looks over at Medusa in shock) You really can?

Medusa: (brushes her snake hair off of her left shoulder and gives a small “hmph” before continuing) Of course. But can you give me a favor, little ones?

Eggplant Wizard: (crosses his arms) Which is….?

Medusa: (stretches her left hand up to the ceiling of the Underworld, starts cackling, knowing that she has gotten the monster’s attention) WE WILL DESTROY THAT FLASHLIGHT PALUTENA AND THE LAND UNDER HER WINGS!!!

(a crowd of monsters starts surrounding her and starts cheering for their freedom yet to come. Medusa’s left hand tightens, as if she was a cat extending her claws, and the ceiling of the Underworld starts to crumble away, showing tiny cracks of light. Medusa smirks sadistically as more rubble breaks away to the surface)

Monsters: HOORAY FOR LADY MEDUSA: THE BEACON OF EVIL THAT SKINS THE LIGHT! DOWN WITH ANGEL LAND AND ITS HUMANS!

LONG LIVE LADY MEDUSA!!!

And with that, Angel Land was put in unsuspecting danger.

It was at first another day in Angel Land. Palutena, now the sole ruler of Angel Land, rules the land peacefully, watching the land thrive in the Palace of the Sky (later called Palutena’s Temple in later games). Little did she know about the revolution coming her way. Then, it all came crashing down.

Palutena: (sighs peacefully) What a peaceful day. Finally with Medusa gone, peace can blossom on this field.

(Medusa kicks down the door of the balcony of the palace, where Palutena is residing)

Palutena: (turns her head around to see Medusa, grinning menacingly, only for the light goddess to act casual) Oh hey, Medusa.

(turns her head back towards the sky, before her eyes widen in realization and does a double take)

Palutena: (shocked) Wait, MEDUSA? What are you doing here!?

Medusa: (gives a smile, but with blood-thirst at its core instead of kindness) Returning the favor.

(Medusa snaps her fingers, and a huge amount of monster troops, fresh from the Underworld, attacking the humans and angels living on Angel Land, much to Palutena’s shock)

Medusa: (grins in response to Palutena’s eyes,full of fear and terror) Oh, that’s not even the cover of the book, love.

(She snaps her fingers again, and all of the angels feel their wings start to glow a dark, grey color and stiffen up. The color turns their wings to stone, which spreads across their body, petrifying them in seconds)

Medusa: (cackles) Now for the finale!

(She claps her hand twice, and a set of chains appear and circle Palutena, tightening around her until she’s trapped)

Palutena: (struggling to break free, but her face is full of determination) You won’t get away with this!

Medusa: (smirks, looking down at the chaos unfolding on Angel Land) I think I will, dear.

But, of course, Medusa was wrong.

You see, the petrification spell that was cast on the angels in Angel Land depended on the magic in their wings, the same magic that helps them fly. But, there is one angel that was captured (along with Palutena and some humans) that couldn’t fly, and therefore wasn’t affected by the petrification spell.

He also is a skilled fighter and devoted follower to Palutena.

You know him, you love him, his name is Pit.

Later in Angel Land….

(Palutena is in a cell, a chain strapped to her foot. She hangs her head and puts her hands together, which glow in a blue light. She opens then again, to show an orb, which turns into a golden bow. The bow is sent away with a message from the goddess herself)

Palutena: (sighs) Now we wait.

——————

Meanwhile in the Underworld…

(Pit is shown in a cell, sitting down and sulking. Suddenly, he sees a bow appear right in front of him, the same one Palutena made. He then reads the note)

“Pit: I have sent you this bow, not for riches, but for hope. I give you a task, for you to achieve for the sake of our world.

Defeat Medusa and restore Angel Land into its former glory!

You are our only hope, Pit.

-Palutena”

Pit: (moans) Sounds great and all, but how on Earth do I get out of here?

(He flips the note on the back side)

“P.S: The jail door is open for you. The monsters forgot to close it.”

Pit: (picks up the bow, and opens the door with a single push, much to his shock) Well, guess I’m on a quest! Now where to start…
