Hey everyone! I’m back again with another blog! And a few weeks ago, I stepped up to be a leader, but even though I haven’t started yet, I don’t think I’m ready for it yet…
So, for some people who have read previous blogs before, I love Dungeons and Dragons (D&D for short), which is a VERY popular role-playing game usually led by a Dungeon Master (DM), who runs the game.
That said, I have a D&D club at school, and since we have WAY too many players and WAY too little DMs to lead the campaigns. So, the leader of the club, a friend of mine, asked me if I wanted to be a DM. So, I decided to accept because, for the people who REALLY have followed this site from the beginning, I have DMed ONE meeting.
It didn’t even go well! I kept forcing options onto the players!
And now, only a day away from the next meeting and…
I have barely the first session planned out. And it’s because of a few reasons:
- I have homework that I need to do and catch up on.
- I keep getting distracted by reading comics or watching videos, which decreases my productivity on homework and the campaign work.
- I’ve been thinking too much on different characters and their storylines to even THINK about what should happen in the campaign.
Overall, just a mess entirely. I really hope that I can get things sorted out next week…
Well guys, the previous paragraph written was a week ago and…
Um…
It didn’t go well, guys.
ALL the people I was leading ignored every single prompt for them to go on the actual adventure. One was asking SO many questions that I didn’t plan for (which I guess was my fault), but they were mainly about “What government structure does the town have?” and “What is the population?”, which I guess are good questions, but NEVER in my experience have people asked that question the campaigns before!
They did take the offer that DOES set up the rest of the campaign, but I don’t think it will end up well because… there are some other actions that they have done that
They also went to a tavern, where decided to drink until one of them got half of her health drained (I decided to make a certain drink require a Constitution saving throw or else they take 1 poison damage and possibly fall unconscious), and for some reason they decided to try and RANDOMLY KILL the bartender, before being stopped by a guard (who luckily is part of the story), and trying to attack him.
For that part I’ll just make the guard defeat them and THAT’S how I’ll set up the story for the rest of the campaign. Overall, I don’t think this campaign will have a happy ending…
In their defense, I was substituting for one of their OTHER DMs (a friend of mine) who, unfortunately, is COMPLETELY new to the game and is running absolute chaos in the story she’s running (Who turns the whole ocean into lava? Clearly not me.)
I hope I can keep everyone on the right track next week (and hopefully plan things out more carefully)!
Bye!
