[TW OPINIONS]
Hey everyone!
So yes, I am aware that Eurovision ended. And I am over a week late to address it. But I’m getting to that.
I, unlike many children my age, do not own Tiktok or Instagram. Thus, I do not know what goes down on those sites except for secondhand information or watching over the shoulders of my friends.
Or watching over my mother’s shoulder.
One day, my mother was scrolling through TikTok, and I heard a clip of a song. It sounded pretty good, and I started vibing to it. So, I checked the bottom of the video to see if there was a song credited.
And I saw the song was called BANGARANGA by Dara.
My mother scrolled 10 seconds into the video, so I made a mental note to search the song up later.
So, I did, and found it on Spotify.
Listening to the whole thing, I was intrigued. The song wasn’t like a normal pop structure; it bounced between styles and tempo (I think). And I liked it!
It was new.
I found on Youtube later that the song was from Eurovision. I remembered hearing the name before when I used to listen to Netta (I had heard from her on Just Dance. I don’t listen to her as much anymore). So, I searched up the song list.
And immediately was caught by some of the titles.
Most notably, JALLA by Antigoni, representing Cyprus.
I’m a mythology nerd, so I immediately thought Antigoni = Antigone (daughter of Oedipus), and Cyprus = island where Pygmalion lived. So I gave the song a listen.
JALLA is also amazing!
So I was immediately hooked on Eurovision.
Then came the great watching-live-performances-and-listening-to-many-songs phase.
And here are some of my things I noted:
- LOOK MUM, NO COMPUTER!
I wasn’t sure what to expect for this song. It’s so goofy! I love it. Sam did such a good job for this.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT GOT NO POINTS. WHAT DO YOU MEAN. IT DESERVED SO MUCH MORE. OUGH.
EINS ZWEI DREI DARLING I NEED SOMETHING SALTY. EINS ZWEI DREI WITH A SLICE OF PEPPERONI. I’LL PAY YOU CAN OWE ME. THAT’LL BE A PONY. EINS ZWEI DREI. I’M COMIN BACK TO LIFE. Love this song. Silly.
- BANGARANGA – LIVE
No hate to DARA. But the live was not my favorite.
Her voice was very strong–which isn’t bad at all! It’s just that her studio version had softer vocals, which conflicted and was not something I really enjoyed.
I also felt that she relied on the backing track too much, which also took away from the performance.
However: her energy was AMAZING and the stage display was super creative and fun. I can see why she placed in first.
I have similar criticisms for JALLA’s live. Again, no hate to these artists. They did so well! I’m just picky.
- NÂN – FINAL
Nân is the song for Albania, placed 13th.
I thought the song was amazing, and that Alis did a super amazing job! The part where (I assume) his mother came on stage was so so so sweet, and reminded me of Odysseus and Anticleia in the best way.
However, I can see why it didn’t win. I think he relied too much on the screen in the back for effects. Which isn’t bad–It looks great!
It’s a beautiful song. But I can see why it didn’t win.
- ANDROMEDA – LIVE
OUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
This song. Croatia’s song, by Lelek, placed 15th.
It’s SUCH a poetic song!! And the presentation was CINEMATIC. I love all their voices so so so so so much. And the history. Oughhhh. Love it.
- FERTO – LIVE
Ferto. Oh this song is also silly.
A lot of people love this song and consider it the goofy song. We can have more than one goofy song, of course. (Eins, Zwei, Drei…)
I do love how this song was presented. Also the song is a vibe. Ferto.
It kind of reminds me of Espresso Macchiato (MI AMORE, MI AMORE) and Europapa (#JUSTICEFORJOOST). Love.
Now I keep saying all of these things. However, is there a song I actually liked a lot? Like, really liked? Why did I make this post? Who did I think deserved better, not just, “oh, they did ok,” or “oh, they deserved more than 0 points (AUGHHH)”?
Well, that’s who I’ll end this post with.
- KRAJ MENE – ALL VERSIONS
THIS SONG. THIS.
I don’t normally listen to these things. Mainly because I didn’t think I liked that type of music, just animation meme trends with that kind of music (early signs).
I clicked on Kraj mene out of pure curiosity. I didn’t expect much: It was just the song Serbia chose to represent, right?
Oh.
OH.
IT WAS PURE PEAK.
The staging?? Hello?? Fire! So much fire!
LAVINA DID SO GOOD!!
I did NOT expect that emotion from Luka. Also he SLAYED in his outfit. (ALL the other band members did!! But especially Luka. Love the claws.)
THE SWORD CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE SWORD MIC STAND. AMAZING. PEAK.
And LUKA’S SCREAMS. THAT EMOTION. HIS FACES. This man must be protected at all costs. DID NOT EXPECT THAT.
And these are his RAW vocals! They sound so so good in Live AND Studio–THAT’S TALENT!!
But we don’t talk about one thing in this performance enough.
When Luka screams the last verse of the song (oughhhhh so good), you can hear someone singing the song normally. THIS IS NOT A BACKING TRACK.
The keyboardist jumped off the keyboard and started singing. THAT’S PAVLE!
We DO NOT talk about Pavle enough. This man has SUCH a good voice!!
LAVINA is so precious. I love them all so much.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY ONLY GOT 17TH??? THEY DESERVED SO MUCH MORE!!
Obviously everyone did great. But I WISH SERBIA WON. THEY DID SO GOOD!!
So far I’ve listened to the Live version in Semis and Finals, the English version, the Studio version (Eurovision), and the Symphonic version. I love them ALL. (I’m normal about this song)
I’m trying to learn the song in Serbian and English to sing it aha
So yeah
There are some of my Eurovision opinions!!
It was fun this year and I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the songs :33
Remember that life is like spaghetti, it’s hard until you make it. And always, always remember:
JOŠ UVEK SANJAM DA SI KRAJ MENEEEEE‼️‼️‼️
Ok bye :33
